SSBM Statistics Master List

Welcome to the main page for all of your Super Smash Bros. Melee statistics needs. Here you will find a comprehensive list of various in-game statistics.

I will update this page with the latest character stats as I measure them.

I take my measurements in debug mode, by looking at the code itself (ASM), by manipulating the contents of RAM, and by playing frame by frame. I combine all of these techniques in order to produce fair tests when measuring stats. Distances are calculated by using the Home Run Contest Scale and calculating the equivalent coordinate values!

Please use the table of contents to jump to the relevant character statistics table.

Speeds

Running Speed

Average running speed is calculated from a standing start. Each character runs for 100 meters and I calculate the average speed.

I manually converted the running speed stats to mile per hour (mph), as I’m aware that some areas of the world are not familiar with meters.

Also, I have added ‘100m sprint’ so that the character can be compared to Olympic athletes 😛

The character with the fastest running speed is Captain Falcon. The character with the slowest running speed is Zelda.

Walking Speed

Average walking speed measures distance traveled and time from a standing start. Fox happens to walk 100m in 13.37 seconds.

The table shows average walking speed statistics measured in meters per second, feet per second, and miles per hour. The last column shows how long it takes for the character to walk a full 100 meters.

The character with fastest walking speed is Fox, followed closely by Marth. The character with the slowest walking speed is Bowser.

Falling Speed

Average fall speed was measured by placing a character exactly 8.1 meters in the air. I chose this height because it is Fox’s Up+B distance, and it was easy for me to measure this. I then measured how long it took for each character to hit the ground. As with all of my statistics, everything is measured with frame accuracy.

This is not a measure of weight/mass.

The table displays average fall speed in meters per second (m/s), and feet per second (f/s).

The character with the fastest falling speed is Falco. The character with the slowest falling speed is Jigglypuff.

Distances

Ledge Rolling Distance (0-99%)

This table displays each character’s ledge roll distance. It is in descending order. A ledge roll is when a character grabs a ledge and presses L/R to perform a roll toward the center of the stage.

The ledge roll distance varies depending on the player’s damage level; the roll is longer when over 99% damage.

The character with the longest ledge roll is Donkey Kong. The character with the shortest ledge roll is Pichu.

Wavedash Distance

A wavedash is an advanced technique that allows the character to slide across the ground. The direction in which one wavedashes does not alter the distance traveled in this test; distances are measured from a standing start.

This table shows the wavedash distance for each character in meters, feet, and units. The game records this value in meters (Meters being the standard measurement for distance in Japan). However, the game mechanics gives a rounding error when converting to feet. I display the game’s value here for completeness.

The character with the longest wavedash is Luigi. The character with the shortest wavedash is tied between Zelda and Peach.

Note: ‘Samus SWD’ refers to the Super Wavedash advanced technique.

Grab Range

There are many ways to measure grab range. Technically one could say that I am measuring ‘reach’ here. I measure grab range by first taking the character’s standing position, and then seeing how far an opponent can stand before being grabbed. This is why Bowser appears to have a high grab range; he leans forward significantly from this standing position, thus giving him an extra advantage.

I am considering adding another grab range table to compensate for this.

The character with the longest grab range is Samus. The character with the shortest grab range is Pichu.
